DAY 1 LIMA / HUARAZ
Leaving the main city a full day ride will take us north
along the coast on the Panamerican Highway traversing
desert and fertile valleys for 200 Kms. to then turn
inland up the Fortaleza Valley over a pass at Conococha.
Wind slowly down the Santa Valley into Huaraz in the
heart of the Cordillera Blanca on the fringes of the
Huascaran National Park. Overnight at hotel, dinner on
your own.
DAY 2
HUARAZ
Free day to acclimatise and take optional excursions
available to various side valleys of the Huascaran
National Park or just roam in the vicinity of the town.
If the group has come already acclimatised we will start
the trek a day early and join the campsite on the next
day.
DAY 3 HUARAZ / OLLEROS / SACRACANCHA
Drive to Olleros, the starting point of our trek. From
here our llamas and drivers will await us to start
winding slowly along a river bed at first to reach the
vicinity of tomorrow’s pass - beautiful views of the
rolling plains and snow - capped peaks of the Huascaran
National Park. Camp at Sacracancha.
DAY 4 SACRACANCHA / SHONCOPAMPA
We slowly ascend the pass at Yana shallash (4,700
m.a.s.l.). We will be able to see the peaks of Umashraju,
Huantsan, Rurec and others as we hike over the
continental divide into the Callejon de Conchucos on the
eastern side of the Andes. We will pass some family
communities. Camp at Shoncopampa.
DAY 5 SHONCOPAMPA / CHAVIN / HUARAZ
The trail winds slowly down hill into the valley as we
leave the mountains behind through agricultural fields.
At midday we will arrive at Chavin de Huantar located on
the outskirts of the village of the same name. Afternoon
to explore the ruins. The site has many galleries and
holds carved stone figures of anthropomorphic semblance
reminiscent of the Maya culture. It is the oldest known
pre-columbian culture discovered known as Chavin-Kotosh.
Depart by bus to Huaraz where we overnight - again the
ride brings us over the continental divide at a high
pass traversing a tunnel to then pass through the
village of Catac. Overnight at a country inn, dinner on
your own.
DAY 6 HUARAZ

Llanganuco or other sites in the area. Time for shopping.
