Day 1: Welcome to Lima, the City of Kings
Your Peruvian adventure begins as you land at Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima. A warm welcome awaits you, and you’ll be transferred to your comfortable hotel in the vibrant Miraflores district. After settling in, take a moment to relax and adjust to the city’s energy. If you’re feeling adventurous, a stroll along the Malecón will offer spectacular sunset views of the Pacific Ocean. For your first dinner, you’ll savor exquisite Peruvian cuisine at a renowned restaurant, where ceviche and other coastal dishes will take center stage.
Day 2: Unveiling Lima’s Treasures
Today, we’ll explore Lima’s rich heritage. We’ll begin in the historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where colonial architecture blends with pre-Columbian vestiges. We’ll stroll through the Plaza Mayor, admire the Government Palace and the Cathedral of Lima, and delve into the fascinating catacombs of the San Francisco Monastery. In the afternoon, the Larco Museum awaits us with its impressive collection of pre-Inca artifacts, revealing the skill and creativity of ancient civilizations. For curious palates, an optional gastronomic tour will be the perfect ending, with an explosion of Peruvian flavors.
Day 3: Cusco, the Inca Capital, and the Sacred Valley
This morning, we’ll fly to Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire, nestled in the Andes. As we ascend to 11,152 feet (3,400 meters), take it easy to acclimate. After a rest, we’ll venture into the Sacred Valley of the Incas, a lush agricultural haven dotted with ancient ruins. Our first stop will be Ollantaytambo, an imposing fortress with terraces and stone constructions. Then, we’ll immerse ourselves in the colorful Pisac Market, a feast for the senses with local handicrafts and textiles. We’ll spend the night in the Sacred Valley.
Day 4: Maras, Moray, and Tipón: Ancestral Engineering
Today, we’ll explore three jewels of the Sacred Valley. We’ll begin in Maras, with its salt mines creating a unique lunar landscape. Then, we’ll marvel at Moray, a complex of circular terraces that served as an Inca agricultural laboratory. Finally, we’ll visit Tipón, an impressive system of aqueducts and terraces demonstrating Inca mastery in hydraulic engineering. We’ll return to Cusco to rest.
Day 5: The Inca Trail Beckons
The ultimate adventure begins today with the start of the Inca Trail. From “Km 82,” we’ll follow ancient paths through spectacular Andean landscapes, accompanied by our guides and porters. Along the way, we’ll discover fascinating Inca sites, witnesses to their ingenuity and art. Our first night will be under a blanket of stars, in the tranquility of the mountains.
Day 6: Wiñay Wayna and the Sun Gate
The trek continues, taking us through diverse ecosystems and breathtaking views. Today’s highlight is Wiñay Wayna, an Inca site with panoramic views. We’ll explore its ruins and camp nearby, preparing for the grand finale.
Day 7: Sunrise at Machu Picchu and Return to Cusco
We’ll rise early to reach the Sun Gate (“Inti Punku”) and witness the sunrise over Machu Picchu. As the mist clears, the Lost City of the Incas will reveal its splendor, an unforgettable memory. We’ll explore the citadel with an expert guide and then descend to Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Cusco.
Day 8: Cusco, Imperial City
Today, we’ll explore Cusco, where Inca architecture merges with colonial. We’ll visit the Cathedral of Cusco, a baroque masterpiece, and the Qoricancha, the Inca Temple of the Sun. We’ll stroll through the San Blas neighborhood, known for its artisan workshops.
Day 9: Farewell to the Andes and Return to Lima
After a final breakfast in the Andes, we’ll transfer to Cusco airport for our flight back to Lima. In the evening, we’ll enjoy a farewell dinner, remembering the magical moments of our trip.
Day 10: Departure from Lima
With hearts full of memories and cameras full of photos, we’ll say goodbye to Peru as we depart from Jorge Chávez International Airport.
